About NPI Lookup

Free NPI number lookup tool powered by official CMS NPPES data.

What Is NPI Lookup?

NPI Lookup is a free online tool that allows healthcare professionals, billing specialists, credentialing coordinators, and anyone who needs to verify healthcare provider information to search the official CMS NPPES (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System) NPI Registry. Our tool provides a faster, cleaner search experience than the official NPPES interface, with additional features including state-filtered searches, specialty-specific pages, and cross-reference guides for DEA, PECOS, PTAN, and other healthcare databases.

Our Data Source

All data displayed by this tool is sourced directly from the CMS NPPES Public API (npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov/api). We make no modifications to the underlying data — every result you see comes directly from the federal government's official NPPES registry. The NPPES database is updated by CMS daily and providers are required by law to update their records within 30 days of any change. We do not store, modify, or re-sell NPPES data.

Who Uses This Tool?

Our primary users are healthcare administrative professionals: medical billing specialists who need to verify NPI numbers before claim submission, credentialing coordinators performing provider identity verification, healthcare IT teams building provider directories, insurance company staff managing provider networks, and physicians and nurses looking up their own NPI numbers. Patients also use this tool to verify their healthcare providers' credentials and enrollment status.

Our Editorial Team

The NPI Lookup Editorial Team creates all educational content on this site — our guides, how-to articles, and FAQ responses. Our content focuses on healthcare billing, provider credentialing, NPI system mechanics, and related federal healthcare regulations. We are committed to providing accurate, practical information that helps healthcare professionals navigate the complex world of provider identification and credentialing. All content is reviewed periodically to ensure accuracy as CMS regulations and NPPES policies evolve.

Privacy and Data

We do not collect, store, or retain user search queries. When you search for a provider, your query goes directly to the CMS NPPES API from your browser — we do not log search terms or results. We may use standard web analytics to understand general traffic patterns (pages visited, browser type, geographic region) but do not track individual user behavior or search history. Provider data displayed is public federal government data, not personal data collected by us. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.
