Privacy Policy

How we handle your data when you use this tool.

Overview

NPI Lookup is designed with privacy as a core principle. This tool allows healthcare professionals to search public government data about healthcare providers. We collect minimal personal information and do not store your search queries. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, or retain: search queries you enter into the NPI lookup tool, names or NPI numbers you search for, search results returned from the NPPES API, your IP address in connection with searches, health information of any kind, or any personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily provide it through a contact form.

How Searches Work (No Server Involvement)

When you use the NPI lookup tool, your search query is sent directly from your browser to the CMS NPPES API (npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov/api). The search does not pass through our servers. We have no visibility into what you search for, what results are returned, or what provider information you view. This client-side architecture means your searches are completely private from our perspective.

Website Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting web analytics to understand general usage patterns — such as which pages are visited, approximate geographic region of visitors, and browser type. Any analytics used are configured to minimize data collection: no personal identifiers are collected, IP addresses are anonymized, and data is not shared with advertising networks. If we use Google Analytics, it is configured with anonymized IP addresses and limited data retention.

Cookies

This tool uses minimal cookies. We do not use cookies for advertising, tracking, or user profiling. Any cookies set are strictly functional — for example, to remember your preferred tab in the search widget during your browser session. These cookies expire when you close your browser and contain no personal information.

Contact Form Data

If you contact us through our contact page, we collect the information you provide (name, email, message) solely to respond to your inquiry. This information is not shared with third parties and is retained only as long as necessary to address your inquiry.

Third-Party Services

This tool relies on the CMS NPPES API (a US government service) to return provider data. When you search, your query is subject to CMS's privacy practices. We do not use advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, or third-party data brokers on this site.

Children's Privacy

This tool is intended for healthcare professional use and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal information beyond what you voluntarily submit through contact forms, there is minimal personal data to request access to or delete. For any privacy questions or requests, contact us through the Contact page.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Changes will be reflected by updating the date below. Continued use of this tool constitutes acceptance of any updates.
